Edye Cohen grew up in Atlanta and is an alumna of the Hebrew Academy of Atlanta (now known as AJA). She is a graduate of the University of Florida, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders and a Master of Education in Special Education. She also received a Director of Special Education (Leadership Administration) certificate from Georgia State University.
Her career began as a special education teacher in the DeKalb County School System, later serving as a special education administrator for several schools in the district. Edye joined the AJA faculty in 2004 and has taught students in grades 2-5 in the Matthew Blumenthal M’silot Program. She and her husband Lee are the proud parents of Megan (GHA '11) and Linsey (GHA '13).
