Leslie comes to AJA with over 17 years of teaching experience, in public and private school settings and in general education classes and special education classes in North Georgia, Northern California, and Atlanta. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art with a minor in Psychology, Master of Art in Teaching for Early Childhood Education, and Ed.S. in Curriculum Development and Instruction. Leslie is trained in the Classroom and Associate Level of Orton- Gillingham and has obtained a Reading Endorsement. She has a love for teaching reading and her vast experience has given her the opportunity to teach students in grades PreK-5 in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science.
Leslie lives in Dunwoody with her husband of almost 26 years, David, and her youngest son, Carson, a junior at Dunwoody High School. Her oldest son, Blake, joined the Army in October. Leslie’s four-legged friends include Gunner, an uncontrollable chocolate Lab, and Maggie, a rescue mix breed.
Some of Leslie’s favorite things to do outside of school include spending time with her family, attending lacrosse games, watching SEC football, gardening, watching her husband cook, reading books, arts & crafts, and playing tennis.
Leslie described the teaching position at AJA as her “dream job.” She says, “Sharing my knowledge, past experiences with my dyslexic son, and training have helped me become a better teacher. Working at a few different schools has enlightened me on making my teaching better, and I reflect each day on lessons that work for the classroom to improve student engagement and learning. I look for ways to help individual students reach their full potential as they are taught how to overcome their academic struggles by using the strengths they already possess. As our class works collaboratively, we discover that each student learns differently and that everyone needs to self-advocate to get what they need to be their very best.”
Leslie will split her time between supporting Kindergarten students and teaching alongside Helane Levy in the 3rd grade M’silot class. She is very excited about becoming a part of the Atlanta Jewish Academy community!
