Leon was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, immigrated to Israel and helped run the dairy farm on Kibbutz Ma’alei Gilboa. He has, also, served in the Israel Defense Forces. He has over thirty-five years’ experience as a Jewish and Israel educator in Glasgow, London, Israel, and America. Covitz has a Bachelor of Arts degrees with Honors in Jewish Studies from Jews College, London and Master’s Degree from Siegal College in Cleveland in Jewish education. Covitz, also, graduated the Senior Educators' Program at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He was a scholar at the Hartman Institute (Jerusalem, Israel) and the Lookstein (Bar Ilan University, Israel) Institute’s Principal’s program.
Covitz served as director of Judaics and teacher from 2004 to 2010 at the former Greenfield Hebrew Academy. For the last 10 years, he has served in different leadership and teaching capacities – both formally and informally. He is excited to return to this campus and wants to help AJA continue to grow – from strength to strength.
